About Us

For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

Retreats offer city councils, commissions, boards, and other decision-making groups a convenient and relatively low-cost way to escape the usual distractions and work together in a relaxed, informal setting.

Vinson Institute faculty skilled in facilitation customize the retreat to the particular needs of the group. Some use a retreat as an opportunity to engage in teambuilding and improve relationships. Others focus on planning for the future and addressing specific short- or long-term goals.

Whether developing an agenda or improving group dynamics, officials can benefit from the guidance of an Institute facilitator who is knowledgeable about the challenges faced by local governments and experienced in leading them to solutions.
