This textbook tells the story of our state—its history, culture, and geography—in the context of American history and government. The Georgia Studies Book is interesting to read, with information presented in a contemporary and colorful layout appealing to eighth-grade students and their teacher and parents. The new edition addresses the Georgia Performance Standards.

Since the publication of The Georgia History Book in the early 1980s, more than a quarter of a million copies of it and The Georgia Studies Book have been used by eighth-grade students in schools systems of varying sizes throughout the state.

Former Vinson Institute faculty members Edwin L. Jackson and Mary E. Stakes are familiar faces to Georgia teachers. Both are veteran civic education specialists with extensive experience working directly with educators. They have written and edited many educational materials, including previous editions of the Institute's Georgia Studies textbooks. Former faculty members Lawrence Hepburn and Mary Hepburn authored the chapters on government in earlier editions.
