International Center

The International Center's instructional programs, technical assistance, and research initiatives are grounded in the Vinson Institute's more than 80 years of experience working with public officials to improve governance and people's lives. The International Center works to help nations in transition strengthen municipal and administrative capability and brings scholars and practitioners to Georgia to help officials understand and respond to global trends affecting the state.

PhotoSince its creation in 2006 by Dr. Lawrence and Sara Mae Phillips, the UGA-Croatia Partnership Fund has been a sustaining force in UGA's interdisciplinary approach to outreach efforts to Croatia.

The fund, which is administered by the Vinson Institute, enables UGA colleges, scholars, and administrators to engage meaningfully with Croatia in the areas of economic, cultural, and social development; public health advancement; and cultural and historical understanding.

Through the fund, UGA has advanced its outreach to Croatia on a number of fronts: UGA's Franklin International Scholars Program has hosted leading scholars from Croatia's University of Zagreb. UGA faculty and administrators have fostered partnerships with Croatian leaders in the areas of democratic governance, agriculture, entomology, forestry, wildlife resources, small business development, historic preservation, international affairs, and higher education research. UGA's College of Veterinary Medicine has established a faculty exchange program with the University of Zagreb intended to advance clinical training and encourage research collaborations. The fund also subsidizes student tuition for the Croatia Maymester Study Abroad Program, making it one of the most affordable study abroad opportunities.
