Current Projects

The International Center is working with its partners at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs to develop new training programs for a range of public officials. This new work builds on previous offerings to undergraduate and graduate students to include public officials at both the local and national levels as well as legislators.

Past Projects

The International Center coordinated a three-year grant from 1999–2002 with funding from the U.S. Department of State in which it assisted the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs in developing its ability to provide local government training to more than 20,000 newly elected officials across the country. Eighteen University of Georgia faculty members assisted in the project while also gaining new knowledge about a country of the former Soviet Union.

The Center also assisted the Georgia International Training Center with creating in-service courses on local government law, policy development, and administration as well as developing a corps of skilled trainers to ensure that the program would continue after the Center’s involvement ended. A year after the partnership was formed, the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs and the Council Association of Georgia joined the team.
