International Center

The International Center's instructional programs, technical assistance, and research initiatives are grounded in the Vinson Institute's more than 80 years of experience working with public officials to improve governance and people's lives. The International Center works to help nations in transition strengthen municipal and administrative capability and brings scholars and practitioners to Georgia to help officials understand and respond to global trends affecting the state.

Visiting Scholars

Visiting scholars come to the International Center to conduct research, connect with public officials, and draw on the resources of the Vinson Institute and the University of Georgia (UGA). In turn, these scholars contribute to and enrich the International Center's outreach programs by contributing their knowledge and insights. Many scholars are simultaneously enrolled in UGA graduate programs.

Graduate Assistantships

University of Georgia graduate students wishing to apply their studies to the international context can inquire about assistantships through the International Center. Opportunities may be available for academic concentrations in public administration, international affairs, comparative politics, African studies, law, foreign language, adult education, journalism, and more. To apply, please send a cover letter and résumé to International Center Director Rusty Brooks.

Undergraduate Internships

University of Georgia undergraduate students can apply to work with the International Center faculty through the Vinson Institute Fellows Program. This semester-long internship pairs students with a faculty-mentor who helps them develop research projects on specific topics of interest. Past Fellows have explored issues such as housing, water shortages, women's educational attainment, corruption, and more as they pertain to other countries.

Study Abroad

University of Georgia students can apply to participate in and receive funding support for the Shanghai Municipal Scholarship Summer School Fudan Program. Participants in this four-week program attend courses at Shanghai's Fudan University on Chinese language, history, government, economy, and culture.
