Professional exchange programs provide opportunities for elected officials and other practitioners to develop peer-to-peer relationships with U.S. counterparts. Through this partnership, these officials gain understanding of the cultural, historical, and societal foundations in each culture and brainstorm solutions to issues each country is facing. Participants are expected to share their experiences with colleagues upon return to their home countries and assist in developing an instructional class or program that can be implemented for fellow officials at future training events.
