A Certified Finance Officer (CFO) is required to complete 15 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) over a two-year period that begins on the date of certification. (Certification date is indicated on the certificates.) For finance officers certified at both Level I and Level II, a total of 15 hours is required. Hours in excess of 15 hours for the two-year period will not roll over to the next two-year window for certification purposes.

To receive CPE credit for recertification, exams must be successfully completed with a score of 70 percent or greater. CPE credits for core classes are no longer awarded for attendance only.

Certification lapses if a CFO has not met the 15-hour requirement. Renewal of certification of Level I can be obtained by successfully passing a Fast Track exam or by successfully completing all Level I courses. Renewal of certification of Level II requires recertification of Level I and the successful completion of Level II courses and project.
