Local Training

Local elected officials, administrators, and staff, as well as boards and authorities, can benefit from quality, customized training and development opportunities offered by the Institute at convenient locations around the state and on the University of Georgia campus.

The Institute and the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) cosponsor the Municipal Training Institute for Elected Officials. The Institute is a series of voluntary training programs for mayors and council members designed to enhance their knowledge and skills as municipal elected officials. The training institute is held several times during the year and is governed by the Board of the Georgia Municipal Training Institute.

A Certificate of Recognition is awarded to those elected officials who complete at least 42 units of instruction. A Certificate of Achievement is awarded to those who complete 72 units and successfully complete the Leadership Institute for Municipal Elected Officials, and a Certificate of Excellence is awarded to those who complete 120 units of training.
