HB 122 Financial Reporting Site Ready for Uploads
As called for in House Bill 122, the Institute has launched a convenient website for local governments to upload financial documents to a common database. HB 122 specifies that local governments with operating budgets greater than $1 million should upload their budget documents within 30 days of their adoption. (more)
Dalton and Whitfield Explore Consolidation
As Whitfield County and City of Dalton leaders contemplate consolidating their two governments, the Institute is there to provide expertise and assistance to help them in their decision-making process. (more)

Environmental Policy Newsletter Addresses Water Issues
Environmental Policy Update, the newly launched newsletter from the Institute’s Environmental Policy Program, provides timely and objective reports on the environmental issues relevant to leaders in Georgia. Fudan University Presents International Center with Student Scholarships
The Institute’s International Center is the recipient of three scholarships for a summer study abroad program to China from the Shanghai Municipal Government and Fudan University. The International Center has selected three UGA students for the scholarships to study at Fudan University in Shanghai. During the four-week program, they will experience the language, culture, and academic environment of China. (more)
New and Current City Officials Come for Training
More than 600 city officials took part in professional development opportunities at the 2011 Mayor’s Day Conference in Atlanta (more) In February, UGA’s Tifton campus hosted the 100-plus newly elected mayors and councilmembers who engaged in training and leadership development sponsored by GMA and the Vinson Institute. New Vinson Fellows Get to Work
Four new UGA undergraduate students began internships at the Institute through the Vinson Fellows program. They were selected through a partnership with the UGA Honors Program and the Roosevelt Institute. (more)
