SPEAKING OUT. Georgians connect higher education with success and favor reducing traffic volume over building more roads, according to the latest Peach State Poll.

FAMILY BUSINESS. Legislators were provided timely information about current issues facing Georgia families during the 2008 Family Impact Seminar sponsored by the Child and Family Policy Initiative. In other news, the initiative sponsors a lecture series to highlight relevant child and family-related research at the University of Georgia and announces a call for papers for a special Fall 2008 symposium. Details about all these events are located at the initiative's new Web site.

PERSONNEL MATTERS. Whether it is enhancing individual leadership traits or learning about what it takes to lead others, the Georgia Leadership Institute has a training program with the right fit.

EXCELLENT SERVICE. The city winners of the 2007 Georgia Excellence in Public Service Awards were presented with their honors at the Mayor's Day conference in Atlanta.... State category winner Joe Whorton received his award during a special program at the University of Georgia in February.

PROPERTY MANAGEMENT. The Building, Land, and Lease Inventory created by Institute specialists now has increased usefulness with the addition of the State Property Register.

INTERNATIONAL UPDATE. The China Networking Roundtable raises awareness of UGA-China initiatives.... Refugee family issues and services are explored during a special workshop.... Faculty from Ukraine's Uzgorod State University visit the Institute

OUT OF DEBT. Registration is open for the new Debt Administration online course from the Institute's financial management program.

NEW ON THE BLOCK. More than 400 newly elected city officials are better equipped to successfully handle their public service roles and responsibilities after training programs in Athens and Tifton.

FUTURE PLANS. Valdosta city officials get serious about planning for the future of their community with help from the Vinson Institute.

OUTSTANDING OUTREACH. John O'Looney and Kitty Shollenberger were honored for public service and outreach by the University of Georgia.... Vinson Institute Human Resource Management Program faculty and staff Steve Condrey, Carl McCoy, Ilka Decker, and Alex Daman were appointed to the strategic imperative committees of the American Society for Public Administration during the organization's recent convention in Dallas, Texas.

WATER WATCH. New photos have been added to enhance the Georgia Rivers and 2007 Drought pages of the popular GeorgiaInfo Web site.

NAVAL AFFAIRS. As part of a continuing collaboration, a delegation of Carl Vinson Institute of Government and University of Georgia officials traveled to Newport News, Virginia, for a visit to the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier.
