NEW TRAINING DIRECTOR ON-BOARD. Laura Meadows brings experience in both state and local government to her position as new director of the Institute's instructional programs.

SERVING YOU BETTER. The Vinson Institute is committed to helping government officials be as effective as possible in their jobs. Help us serve you better by taking this quick survey.

NEW TRAINING HUB AT UGA-GRIFFIN. Local government officials in the Griffin region can attend Management Development Program classes at a location convenient to them thanks to a new partnership between the Institute and UGA-Griffin.

YEAR IN REVIEW. For highlights of our work in promoting excellence in government in 2008, please browse the Institute's 2008 online annual report.

CENSUS 101. Researchers now have specific guidance for utilizing census data through a new handbook written by the director of the Institute's Applied Demography Program.

REAL-WORLD VIEW. UGA undergraduate students get an inside look into state and local government and the opportunity to be involved in the Institute's wide-ranging work program through the new Vinson Institute Fellows Program.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT UPDATE. Local government officials with human resource management responsibilities can turn to the Vinson Institute for timely training and assistance.

ACCG CONVENTION WRAP-UP. Local government officials were able to participate in new and expanded instructional sessions at the April ACCG convention.

PARENT ATTORNEY STATUS. For the first time, legal and social services officials will have a detailed statewide assessment of the parent attorney practice in Georgia.

INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH. June was a busy month for the China Public Manager Training Program.... Kenya officials were briefed on governmental purchasing procedures.

AWARD-WINNING SERVICE. The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) assistance provided by Institute specialists is recognized by a national award.

PUBLICATIONS SPOTLIGHT. Building the Local Economy provides readers with an informative look at economic development best practices nationwide.... Budget Manual for Georgia Local Government is a thorough resource on both development and administration of a local government budget. Check these other useful local government publications.

OUTSTANDING OUTREACH. Mary Stakes is the recipient of a 2009 Governor's Award in the Humanities.... Kelly Foster was recently elected to the executive council of the American Association for Public Opinion Research.... Steve Condrey was named to the advisory board of the Institute for Public Affairs at the University of Dallas.
