Local government appointed officials in the Griffin regional area will have a convenient location for professional development thanks to a new partnership between the Vinson Institute and the University of Georgia's Griffin Campus Office of Continuing Education. The partnership was introduced May 29 in Griffin at a special briefing session for local officials.

Classes kick off August 18 with Course I of the popular Management Development Program for Georgia Local Government conducted by faculty of the Institute's Governmental Training, Education, and Development Division, according to Gordon Maner, local government training manager.

"This satellite instructional location allows public officials in the area to take advantage of professional development opportunities in a manner that is efficient in terms of both time and cost," said Maner.

In addition to providing classroom space, the UGA Griffin Office of Continuing Education will handle course registration and marketing activities. The Institute will develop and carry out instruction, administer participant testing and evaluations, and keep track of training hours earned.

More than 5,000 public officials have participated in the three-course Management Development Program since it was started some 25 years ago.
