Newsworthy (Spring 2009) - Human Resource Management Update
The Vinson Institute was actively involved with the Georgia Local Government Personnel Association's (GLGPA) annual conference, held June 9–12 at St. Simons Island. Faculty and staff provide overall conference coordination and instruction in current personnel practices.
For more than 20 years, the Institute's Governmental Training, Education, and Development Division has administered GLGPA's human resource management certificate programs in coordination with the Association County Commissioners of Georgia and the Georgia Municipal Association, according to Walt McBride, faculty member.
Nearly 850 GLGPA members have participated in both the certification and advanced certification programs. These programs are designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and abilities of any local government administrator in Georgia who is responsible for the management and administration of personnel systems. "We look to the Vinson Institute as a partner in educating our members and could not provide the quality of educational instruction and materials without them," said Brenda Yearwood, GLGPA education committee chair and past president.
