ECONOMIC OUTLOOK. Findings of a national survey reveal that despite pessimism about their counties' current economic conditions, elected officials are generally optimistic about future improvement.

TIMELY ACCOUNTING. State accounting officials are better equipped to complete important end-of-year reports with the help of specialized materials from the Vinson Institute).... Check here for information on all financial training programs

GREEN INITIATIVE. An environmental sustainability course for local officials premieres at the GMA convention.... Rob McDowell brings extensive experience to his new position as director of the Institute's Environmental Policy Program.... Water resource management research and policy analysis services expand with the addition of new faculty expertise.

UNDER STUDY. Oconee County elected officials have current information about their government's form and function as well as options to consider through a recent Vinson Institute study.

INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH. The new Shanghai Executive Training Group Program kicks off.... African government officials and community leaders participated in a symposium that marked the completion of the Kenyan-Georgia women's exchange project.... Institute faculty member Malik Watkins is using a Fulbright Award to help higher education administrators in Liberia.... The China Public Manager Training Program is featured in Georgia magazine.

PROGRAM EVALUATION. Institute data management specialists are helping state behavioral health officials monitor the progress of a new program for veterans.

REGIONAL OUTLOOK. Customized training programs are under way for administrators and staff of the 12 new Regional Commissions.

ON THE MOVE. Mobile classrooms provide city and county officials with first-hand insights regarding Georgia's changing demographics and issues related to water resources and agriculture.

OUTSTANDING OUTREACH. Rusty Brooks was a keynote speaker at a conference focusing on China's urbanization and community development under globalization that was held in Shanghai in September and was attended by representatives from eight countries.... Harry Hayes moderated a session on how counties are soliciting public input related to budget cuts during the National Association of Counties annual conference.
