The Vinson Institute, in cooperation with the State Accounting Office (SAO), has developed specialized materials and training tools to help state-level fiscal personnel complete important end-of-year forms for inclusion in Georgia's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, according to Sabrina Cape, coordinator of the Institute's financial management instructional programs.

"The accurate and timely completion of end-of-year forms by individual state agencies is critical to SAO being able to issue the state's financial statements on time to such important third parties as bond rating agencies. These agencies count timely submission toward a state's overall bond rating. The better the rating, the lower the interest costs to the state," explains Cape.

Myra Byrd and Patti Lee are the lead Institute faculty members on the SAO project. Components include a variety of sample forms and instructional videos along with classes and Q&A sessions at various times and locations starting in August 2009.

"Thanks to the collaborative efforts between SAO and the Vinson Institute, we were able to deliver effective training that aligns with our ongoing commitment to customer service. We appreciate the partnership and look forward to working together as we continue to build our end-of-year reporting training portfolio," said State Accounting Officer Greg Griffin.
