International Center director Rusty Brooks was one of only three international experts invited to participate at the Guangyuan International Forum Shu Road China, held in November in China's Sichuan Province. The conference focused on the ancient road and the consequences of its recognition of as an official World Heritage site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Brooks spoke on the role of local governments in supporting the international designation and on economic development implications.

The other two experts from outside China invited to speak were Lord Donald Hankey, president of the International Council on Monuments and Sites, and Simon Molesworth, chairman of the International Trusts Organization.
