MORE ABOUT THE WE THE PEOPLE PROGRAMS

We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution is designed to foster civic responsibility and provide students with a six-week course of instruction on the basic principles of constitutional democracy and the history of our Constitution. The program also enhances students' understanding of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and the fundamental principles and values that they employ.

We the People: Project Citizen is a civic education program that promotes active and responsible participation in state and local government. It engages students in learning how to monitor and influence public policy and encourages civic participation at all levels among students, their parents, and members of the community.

Both programs encourage critical thinking skills and include a variety of problem solving activities, cooperative learning exercises, and research assignments to help students develop intellectual and participatory skills. Each program concludes with a performance based activity that involves the entire class. Both programs are correlated with the GPS curriculum standards in social studies and language arts.

Financial support for these programs is provided by the U.S. Congress through the Center for Civic Education with administration through the University of Georgia. They serve both public and independent schools across Georgia.
