The following represents a small sample of the hundreds of thousands of species of wildlife found in Georgia. The term "wildlife" refers to mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates (including insects) that live in the wild. It does not include domesticated animals such as dogs, cats, and cattle which are closely tied to humans for their existence. Why are some species of wildlife included in this website, while others are omitted? One reason is some of the animals are particularly interesting or are endangered or threatened. Also, we tried to include wildlife where government agencies or scientists had already produced narrative descriptions or images. However, this is a web site that will grow—both in terms of number of entries as well as information in each entry.
