AN EVEN SPLIT. According to the most recent Peach State Poll release, Georgians are evenly split when asked if sending American troops to Iraq was a mistake.
MAJOR DOUBTS. Another Peach State Poll release reports that Georgians would not turn to the government for relief in the event of a major disaster.
LOOKING BACK. Jim Ledbetter, who retired as Institute director at the end of March, is presented with a special commendation from the Georgia General Assembly in recognition of his distinguished public service career.
LOOKING AHEAD. Steve Wrigley is named the new director of the Vinson Institute.
ON-THE-JOB TRAINING. More than 400 newly elected city officials received basic training and the opportunity to network with each other at special institutes held recently in Athens and in Tifton.
EMERGENCY ALERT. The National Center for the Study of Counties is conducting a survey of county emergency management officials to assess the preparedness of county governments.
SPENDING A LIFETIME. A new publication brings together for the first time fictionalized stories of four city managers who follow career paths common to the profession.
SMART MONEY. Finance staff from various departments of the Columbus-Muscogee Consolidated Government join together to complete the Local Government Financial Officer Certification Program.
