About Us

For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

Future legislative leaders fine tune skills at special institute

Senators and representatives enrolled in the Georgia Legislative Leadership Institute (GLLI) recently completed the first session of the current program, which was held May 31-June 3 at Jekyll Island. The 22 participants were selected by House and Senate leaders.

First held in 2005 as a new component of the Biennial Institute for Georgia Legislators, GLLI is a phased leadership development program that focuses on preparing newer members of the General Assembly to be effective leaders and decision makers in today's complicated legislative environment, explained Jim Stephens, director of the Institute's Governmental Training, Education, and Development Division. Participants at the recent session had the opportunity to assess their own leadership styles and improve them and to learn more about the path to making value-based decisions that serve the public. Instructors included Vinson Institute faculty, professional development specialists, and former government leaders.
