The Institute's Civic Education Program is recognized nationally for providing educators with opportunities to experience government up-close and personal so they gain firsthand knowledge and resources to help their students understand the value of active citizenship.


Teachers participating in the 2007 Don Mendonsa Local Government Seminar gathered by the famous double-barreled cannon in front of Athens City Hall prior to spending the afternoon of June 11 interviewing department heads of the Athens-Clarke County Consolidated Government.


A tour of the Georgia Supreme Court chambers and a meeting with Judge Debra Barnes of the Georgia Court of Appeals gave Georgia State Government Seminar teacher attendees a new perspective of how the judicial system works.
