University of Georgia faculty and staff currently involved in China-related activities now have a better understanding of each other's work programs through their participation in the second UGA-China Networking Round Table recently sponsored by the Institute's International Center.

The January 25th event brought together more than 30 representatives from the university's colleges, schools, departments, and service units to share information and hear from Qiao Hong, consul general of the Houston, Texas, consulate of the People's Republic of China. After presenting an overview of China-U.S. relations, Hong focused her remarks on higher education initiatives between the two countries.

"The primary objective of the round table was for UGA faculty working in China to become better acquainted with each other and to raise awareness of the many different initiatives that currently exist," says Michael Beck, director of the International Center. "I am hoping that the networking also produces some synergies and new programs as well."

The International Center maintains a database of UGA-China related projects and a listserv. For more information, contact Jianfeng Wang (see contact information above).
