Karen Handel, Georgia’s Secretary of State, spent time on May 14 with the Kenyan Delegation currently participating in an exchange visit coordinated by the Vinson Institute’s International Center. In an informal discussion held at the Capitol, Handel talked with the group about her career path in public service and some of the challenges she faces in her position as a state government executive. Delegation members also gained a better understanding of Georgia’s election and lawmaking processes during a tour of the House and Senate chambers.

The delegation is completing a three-week program of site visits and information sessions on the skills and organizational capacity needed for successful participation in politics and policy making. While in Atlanta, they also visited with representatives of various nonprofits and government agencies.
