Wrighton Takes Local Government Management Expertise to India

Posted June 20, 2008

Scot Wrighton, Vinson Institute management development specialist, recently spent time in Bangalore, India, participating in meetings of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and providing assistance to Indian municipal officials. Wrighton has been an active member of ICMA's international committee since 2004.

The international committee hosted two full days of sessions for city officials from the United States and India to discuss shared concerns. Bangalore is one of the fastest growing cities in India, and its officials are facing a number of related opportunities and challenges, according to Wrighton.

The ICMA committee members also met with representatives from city manager associations located in three of India's states to discuss capacity building. "These member associations have been very successful in the Indian states where they have been started because they function in a municipal league-like role similar to the Georgia Municipal Association or the National League of Cities," Wrighton explained. Wrighton serves as liaison between the Vinson Institute and the Georgia City-County Managers Association.
