Contact: Ann Allen, allen@cviog.uga.edu; 706.542.6221
The Child and Family Policy Initiative (CFPI) is accepting research-based, best-practice presentation proposals for its annual conference on October 5, 2009, in Athens. The 2009 conference theme is "Challenges and Opportunities: The Intersection of Childhood and the Economy."

CFPI's annual conference is an interdisciplinary symposium that bridges university-based research with effective practice to inform sound public policy. Researchers, practitioners, and students from diverse fields are encouraged to submit proposals. The submission deadline is June 1.

Tracks for the conference include

  • Child and family economics and well-being—proposals addressing policies affecting child and family well-being or family economics, such as poverty, in the current economy
  • Community impact—proposals addressing the challenges and opportunities facing child-serving systems and organizations in the new economy, such as government agencies, nonprofit organizations, public health, mental health, juvenile justice, and education
  • Innovative solutions and collaborations—proposals addressing new and innovative solutions or collaborations between systems and agencies in the current economy

The 2009 Annual Conference is the second statewide conference hosted by CFPI. The first in 2008, entitled The Prison Pipeline: The Intersection of Childhood and the Criminal Justice System, addressed how children are impacted by the juvenile and criminal justice systems.
