The new Shanghai Executive Training Group Program is helping public officials from the international city enhance their knowledge and skills in current public administration practices. The program is being carried out through a partnership between the Vinson Institute International Center and the Shanghai Education Center for Administrators.

This is the second delegation from Shanghai that the International Center has hosted for the program. The current group of participants arrived in Athens, Georgia, on August 16, 2009. They will spend the next six months attending public administration-related classes at the University of Georgia, interacting with state and local government officials, and completing an internship in a government setting, reported Jienfeng Wang, International Center faculty member. They will also spend time visiting government entities in Washington, D.C.

The participants represent a range of units and were selected for their potential as future leaders. They are Chu Min, director of research development, Shanghai Youth Federation; Ke Qinfei, graduate school dean, Donghua University; Ji Ying, metro news chief, Xinmin Evening News; Xiao Wei, deputy director, Committee of Economy of Jiading District Government, Shanghai; and Zhang Jin Hua, vice director, Pudong New Area Social Development Bureau, Shanghai.

"We are excited about the opportunity to expand our specialized instruction for Chinese public managers and, at the same time, contribute to a greater global understanding among all the participants," said Wang.
