Rome Gets Preventive Checkup
Rome city officials are working to ensure that their local government is in the best position possible to serve the community with the help of a governance, fiscal, and operational checkup by the Vinson Institute.
“It is admirable that Rome city leaders are taking time to examine their operations when they are already a well-functioning local government,” said Paula Sanford, Institute faculty member and study director. The study goal is to identify and evaluate specific opportunities for improving city government and confirm what current structures and procedures may be optimal.
Using a tested process, the Institute team is gathering and analyzing data from such sources as archival records and interviews. Also being considered is information from 14 Georgia cities of comparable size to Rome and national best practices literature.
In the end, leaders will have in one document a picture of the city’s current situation and how it differs from comparison cities, an overview of the potential strengths and weaknesses of adopting alternative strategies, and a checklist of areas for which more in-depth analysis may be called for.
