About Us

For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

The Georgia Department of Corrections recently partnered with the Vinson Institute to create a new training program that invests in the professional development of its front line managers. The result, the Advanced Management Training program (AMT), equips promising employees with leadership skills to help them excel in their current positions and prepare for higher levels of responsibility in the department.

Twenty-five corrections managers completed the first session of the AMT on May 7. Vinson Institute faculty members Sherri Lawless and Eric Robinson led the five-day program, which focused on leading successful, results-driven teams.

The AMT complements the existing Corrections Leadership Institute, a development program for the department’s middle managers.
