Training Is Over the Top at GMA Convention
More than 1,000 Georgia city officials took part in a multitude of training opportunities during the 2010 Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) Convention in Savannah, June 25-29. The Vinson Institute carries out the training and development in partnership with GMA.
Both required and elective courses were offered on such topics as strengthening communities, emergency management, taxation, planning and zoning, economic development, municipal law, municipal finance, managing meetings, law enforcement services, and ethics. A special mobile workshop gave participants a first-hand look at how Garden City reinvented its town center and its overall image.
Mayor Jerry Shinholster of McIntyre was awarded the Certificate of Distinction for completing 204 hours of training. Certificates of Recognition, Certificates of Achievement, and Certificates of Excellence were also awarded.
