About Us

For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

The Institute's three Fall Fellows completed their internships with presentations about their research on December 9, 2010. Allison Leigh, Sabrina Ragaller, and Kristin Moreaux began work with the Institute in September assisting faculty-mentors and gaining experience in the overall work of the organization.

Leigh, who is from Lilburn, Georgia, worked with Rob McDowell, director of the Institute's Environmental Policy Program. Her special area of focus was on Georgia's state-wide water management plan. Ragaller, from Henderson, Nevada, assisted Rusty Brooks, director of the Institute's International Center, on research related to fighting corruption in the country of Azerbaijan.

Moreaux is from Griffin, Georgia. Her work with Warren Brown, director of the Applied Demography Program, centered on Georgia's developing work force.

The Vinson Institute developed the Fellows Program in order to involve high-achieving undergraduate students in its work to promote excellence in government. The selection process is carried out in partnership with UGA's Honors Program and Roosevelt Institution chapter.
