Vinson Institute survey research specialists are conducting a series of 12 focus groups to help the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) inform a special group of local elected officials—the Atlanta Roundtable—about how residents view the region’s transportation situation overall and what they believe are budget priorities.

The 2010 Transportation Investment Act calls for the creation of regional “roundtables” of officials who are responsible for drafting lists of transportation projects that voters subsequently decide to support or not via an additional sales tax, according to Rich Clark, survey research unit director. Items can range from road maintenance to transit to technology improvements.

The focus group respondents were randomly selected from a list of registered voters. The 12 groups include one each in 9 of the 10 ARC counties (all but Fulton) and one each in North Fulton and South Fulton and inside the City of Atlanta. Once the group sessions are completed, the Institute team will provide ARC administrators with an analysis of the response data.
