An Internet connection is all local government employees need to enhance their knowledge about the principal concepts behind governmental budgeting now that the Vinson Institute's Financial Management Program has launched its latest online course offering—Introductory Budget.

Participants in this foundational course can learn the basic concepts related to local government budgets as well as how to prepare revenue estimates and budget summaries. They also get exposure to the process of creating, implementing, and monitoring a budget. Both the online and in-class versions of Introductory Budget satisfy a core requirement for Level 1 certification in the Institute's Local Finance Officer Certification Program. However, the course is also open to those not pursuing their certification.

Introductory Budget is the eighth online course released by the Financial Management Program and joins a catalog that includes such courses as Treasury Management, Debt Administration, and Accounts Payable and Cash Disbursements. Participants in these online courses benefit from the convenience of being able to complete the courses at their own pace and without the logistical and cost challenges of travel and time away from the office.
