From government executives to midlevel managers, government leaders looking for innovative ways to better understand and refine their performance now have a new tool available to them with the Vinson Institute's launch of GOV360™. GOV360™ is a 360-degree assessment instrument developed by faculty from the Institute and the UGA Department of Psychology that is customized for the governmental environment.

GOV360™ helps managers identify their personal strengths and opportunities for growth through perspectives of the people they work with. It combines information provided by participants through a self-assessment with input collected confidentially online from their peers, subordinates, and their own managers. GOV360™ addresses 23 competencies related to the interpersonal skills and unit performance and process management skills that are essential to the success of government leaders. Receiving feedback from individuals at different organizational levels gives government managers a fuller, objective perspective on their performance and allows them to use this information to develop a personalized professional development plan with the help of a Vinson Institute executive coach.

"At the Vinson Institute, we're strong believers in the importance of continuing education and professional development in government, especially for high-level leaders and managers. As the level of responsibility grows and the stakes get higher, the need for sharp, up-to-date skills becomes more essential," says Catherine Bennett, one of GOV360™'s developers. "GOV360™ feedback will give leaders a comprehensive look at their personal strengths, blind spots, hidden talents, and opportunities for growth. In times of already stretched budgets, the ability to identify these areas for growth through the assessment and then customize a targeted development plan with executive coaching is effective and powerful."

Individuals or governments can purchase GOV360™ for themselves or for groups of people easily online. There are several options to meet participants' needs, including the ability to choose in-person or virtual executive coaching sessions. Additionally, the assessment can be purchased separately and coaching sessions added later.
