Local government finance officers and other officials can learn about property taxes, millage rates, licenses, permits, fees, and other concepts related to governmental revenues at a location and pace convenient to them thanks to the Financial Management Program's newest online course offering—Revenue Administration.

Revenue Administration walks participants through the basic features of local government revenue sources. It addresses trends in the revenue structures of governments and introduces participants to the components of a well-designed revenue policy. Other topics include methods of generating investment income, revenue collection strategies, and ways to determine the most appropriate revenue sources for funding new government services.

Both the online and in-class versions of Revenue Administration satisfy a core requirement for the Institute's Local Finance Officer Certification Program. However, the course is also open to those not pursuing their certification.

Revenue Administration is the ninth online course released by the Financial Management Program and joins a catalog that includes such courses as Introductory Budget, Treasury Management, Debt Administration, and Internal Controls for Accounts Payable and Cash Disbursements. Participants in these online courses benefit from the convenience of being able to complete the courses at their own pace and without the logistical and cost challenges of travel and time away from the office.
