Twenty-four local government officials earned their Level I or II certified financial officer status from the Vinson Institute's Financial Management Program during the second quarter of 2012 while enhancing their expertise in the areas of budgeting, purchasing, accounting, and other government finance topics.

Level I certification through the Local Finance Officer Certification Program requires participants to complete 108 hours of instruction in areas of budgeting, capital improvement, debt administration, purchasing, accounting, and treasury administration. Participants earning Level II certification must complete an additional 84 hours of instruction in intermediate budgeting, intermediate accounting, internal controls, and revenue administration.

The Institute designed its financial management training curriculum to help government personnel contribute to their organizations in ways that improve efficient and effective operations through sound financial management practices.
