David Tanner Arrives as New Head of Institute Governmental Services and Research
The Vinson Institute is pleased to welcome David Tanner to the Institute team as the new leader of the Governmental Services and Research Division (GSR). Before arriving at the Vinson Institute, Tanner served in the Governor's Office of Planning and Budget (OPB) for 12 years, most recently as deputy director.
As head of GSR, Tanner will have responsibility for the wide range of technical assistance and research services provided by the Institute to state and local governments throughout Georgia. Division faculty and staff assist governments with tax and expenditure analyses, departmental and organizational reviews, survey and evaluation research, environmental policy expertise, economic and demographic analyses, and much more.
Tanner brings to the Institute his expansive experience in government, having worked on budget, policy, and management issues related to education, economic development, public safety, general government, health and human services, and more. He has played a major role in redesigning Georgia's HOPE scholarship program, overseeing federal stimulus dollars to the state, and reorganizing the Department of Human Services. He also has had experience working in local government.
"David is a superb addition to the Vinson Institute team and to the Governmental Services and Research Division," said Institute Director Laura Meadows. "GSR faculty and staff continue to play a vital role in helping governments at the state and local levels navigate change and make informed policy decisions. David's experience at OPB enhances our ability to provide assistance throughout Georgia."
Dennis Epps previously served as GSR associate director prior to being named deputy director of the Vinson Institute in March.
