Online Training Courses

Unlike face-to-face classes, which a busy government employee may not have time to attend, the Institute's online classes allow students to progress through their chosen courses at their own pace and on their own schedules.

This course, offered in partnership with the UGA Center for Continuing Education, is designed to acquaint elected officials and staff with the fundamentals of human resources management. Human Resources: An Online Course for Governmental Officials gives students a solid understanding of interview and hiring processes, employee performance apppraisal, and basic legal issues related to government employment.

The course includes information on personnel law and the basics of human resource management including the day-to-day issues facing human resource staffs, the role of the personnel manager, and methods for establishing and adhering to sound personnel policies and procedures.

Unlike in a face-to-face class, students can complete this Web course at their own pace, on their own schedule, within a 30-day period. Successful completion of this first online credit offering will earn students the same credits (.6 CEUs) that they would receive for attending a traditional six-hour Human Resources I workshop. By completing four lessons and accompanying multiple-choice quizzes, students will gain knowledge and skills that will help them work more effectively in all phases of human resource management.
