Emma Griffin is a third-year student studying political science and international affairs. Emma’s research will focus on the viability of the electric car battery recycling industry in Georgia. She will be working with faculty mentor and Assistant Director Shana Jones.
Emma is the Assistant Opinion Editor for The Red & Black and writes for the Georgia Political Review publication. She volunteers for various on-campus programs, such as the UGA Period Project, and is currently conducting research on the impact International Nongovernmental Organizations have on environmental terrorism with UGA’s CURO Research Program. In her free time, she likes to spend time with friends and try new restaurants in the Athens area.
Khushi Patel is a third-year student studying Finance and intended Management Information Systems. She will be working with faculty mentor and Public Service Assistant Anna Wrigley Miller.
Khushi is involved in many campus extracurriculars, including the Institute of Leadership Advancement and Alpha Kappa Psi. She also spends her time volunteering with Athens-based non-profit Children First. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and being outdoors.
Becca Pirkle is a third-year student studying Geography and International Affairs, with a certificate in Urban and Metropolitan Studies. Becca’s research will focus on how local governments in Georgia can equitably manage population growth. They will be working with faculty mentor and Associate Director Mara Shaw.
Becca interns with the Fernbank Museum of Natural History and is a part of the Geography Undergraduate Student Organization. They volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and the Athens Clarke County Trail Ambassadors. In their free time, Becca enjoys baking cookies and going on walks.
Senobia Sanchez is a fourth-year student pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Spanish. Senobia’s research will focus on the rising rates of incarceration of women. She will be working with faculty mentor and Public Service Associate Holly Lynde.
Senobia serves as Public Relations Coordinator for American Society of Law, Medicine, and Ethics. She also works for the Georgia Newspaper Project and is involved in other on-campus extracurriculars, such as HSA, Capture, and Criminal Justice Society. In her free time, Senobia enjoys reading romance novels, taking walks around UGA north campus, and watching Bridgeton with her friends.
Gitzel Zaldibar-Anguiano is a fourth-year student studying international affairs and public relations. She is minoring in French and pursuing certificates in public affairs communication and applied politics. Gitzel is also currently a Double Dawgs student working on her MPA. Gitzel’s research will focus on the downtown development program. She will be working with mentor and Communications Director Courtney Alford-Pomeroy.
She is involved in the Spencer Frye Fellowship program and is the communication director for YoungDems UGA. Additionally, she is a member of the Speak Out for Species club. In her free time, she likes to read or draw.
