Development Authority Training
The Vinson Institute is offering one-day development authority training sessions at locations throughout the state during 2013. The training sessions are designed to meet the statutorily mandated training requirement for development authority board members. Development authority board members and elected officials can now engage in training to help them contribute to local economic development while taking advantage of the Vinson Institute's decades of expertise in governmental training and assistance. This program is replacing the DAT Basic Program that has been previously offered by the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development.
Participants will discuss their responsibilities as members of development authority boards and the role that development authorities serve within the local economic development process. Topics include legal issues, ethics, conflicts of interest, and open records and open meetings requirements.
In addition, participants will learn the basics of financing development authority operations, incentives, deal-closing funds, and bonds. They will also address strategic planning in community development, project development and management, and emerging issues that affect development authorities.
