As a staff member with the Government Services and Research division, James Byars
specializes in the design and implementation of data solutions using data science,
machine learning, artificial intelligence, data storytelling through static visualizations
and dashboards, and management information systems for data extraction and management.
He leads a team of data analysts and data scientists who provide technical support
and training for internal and external partners throughout the state. Additionally,
James presents at conferences and workshops about artificial intelligence, machine
learning, data science and data storytelling for data-informed decision-making.
Prior to joining the Institute of Government, James worked for the University of Georgia's
Office of Institutional Research assisting in institutional reporting and data analysis
on institutional effectiveness and program evaluation. James is a recipient of the
2023 Public Service and Outreach (PSO) Staff Award for Excellence Award and is a graduate
of PSO’s Leadership Academy.
